List of Steel Magnolia’s Problems When I Purchased Her
Here’s the list of everything wrong with the boat at the time I purchased it with the repaired items crossed through. I only keep this here to remind me that I am making progress.
1. No hot water in forward shower.
2. Lower deck toilets do not flush properly and cannot be used except with sea water without flooding.
3. Hot and cold water reversed to kitchen sink.
4. Engine badly out of alignment with prop shaft.
5. Engine shaft coupling improperly sized which, combined with alignment caused breakdown in Lake Michigan.
6. Anchor windlass switch in pilothouse wired backwards causing safety pin to break when attempting to anchor.
7. Engine alternator not wired to charge engine start battery.
8. Shore power setup hopelessly inadequate to power boat without running generator.
9. Inverter/battery charger control panel not working requiring new panel and new wiring. Charger was set to Gel Cell batteries rather than wet batteries.
10. Master shower sump clogged and located where it cannot be cleaned out…overflows into bilge.
11. Starboard windshield wiper not working…was never wired up to power.
12. Microwave oven will not function when using inverter for power.
13. One of kitchen light fixtures has no wiring attached to it.
14. Master shower control valve installed backwards.
15. Five gallons of distilled water required to top off seven batteries in engine room.
16. Horn doesn’t work.
17. Chain locker filled with water instead of recommended amount of lead ballast.
